We kick off the first edition of the Zimbabwe Forestry online magazine with three articles. One that focus on the past, present and possible future of the industry. Speaking of the future, the second article takes a look at an automated planting machine. A proto-type being developed in Sweden with no need of an operator, it can mark planting stations, transport seedlings and plant tree seedlings.
This comes off the backdrop of difficult forest terrain, low productivity where man-power is utilised, high injury frequency, high minimum wages, shortage of forestry labour and competitive timber prices globally. Lastly we celebrate Zimbabwe’s’ current Tree of the Year that is, the Baobab Tree.
